It was hard not to cringe during Trump’s meeting with EU leaders. Everyone from Ursula von der Leyen to Mark Rutte obsequiously thanked the Big Orange Man for ‘achieving such remarkable progress’ in moving along Ukraine peace efforts. The same peace efforts that the EU apparatchiks spent more than three years sabotaging.

European leaders are smart enough to have realized that if you want to sway Trump, you first have to massage his ego. The gameplan is not to directly oppose Trump’s proposal for a ‘Big Beautiful Deal’ with Russia, but instead to quietly insert some poison pill conditions that are unacceptable to Russia. That way Putin can be made out to be the bad guy once the peace process once again falls apart, and Trump can be prodded into unleashing a new wave of sanctions against Russia and its BRICS partners.

Trump now has the opportunity to show whether he’s the real deal or not. Does he actually have his own foreign policy vision, or does he simply parrot whatever the last person he spoke to told him?

🦅💲 BlackRock sinks its claws deeper into Saudi Arabia

The Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) investment group owned by US financial giant BlackRock has struck a $11 billion deal with Saudi oil and gas giant Aramco to lease natural gas processing facilities from the latter, the FT has reported.

🔴 The gas processing facilities in question are located in the Jafurah basin, home to one of the largest natural gas reserves in Saudi Arabia

🔴 Following the lease of the plants, GIP will then lease them back to Aramco as part of the deal

🔴 The assets are going to be held by Jafurah Midstream Gas Company, a new subsidiary of Aramco. The Saudi company will control 51% of the assets while GIP and its co-investors will get the remaining 49%

The new investment is the latest move by BlackRock to spread its influence across Saudi Arabia, having gained a 49% stake in Aramco’s natural gas pipelines in 2021 and successfully invited Aramco President Amin Nasser to BlackRock's board of directors in 2023 as an independent director.

🔴 In 2024, BlackRock, together with the Saudi Public Investment Fund, established a multi-asset investment platform called BRIM (BlackRock Riyadh Investment Management) ostensibly meant to help diversify the kingdom’s capital markets

🔴 In 2021, a group of investors led by BlackRock used a similar lease-leaseback scheme to acquire a 49% stake in Aramco’s natural gas pipelines in a deal worth $15.5 billion.

All this allows BlackRock greater access to vital Saudi oil and gas assets.
