🔹 Four beasts rising from a stormy sea—a winged lion, a bear with three ribs in its mouth, a four-winged leopard with four heads, and a terrifying beast with ten horns—symbolizing earthly empires, followed by a heavenly judgment where the son of man receives the eternal kingdom (Daniel 7).
The lion is read as Babylon, the bear as Medo-Persians, the leopard as Greece, and the beast as Greece and Rome. The vision's emphasis is on God's judgment to establish divine rule.
Rav Yosef writes in Megillah 11: the Persians are likened to a bear because, like a bear, they eat much and are hairy, and the three ribs are the three realms that Cyrus puts to an end.
Judaism sees the kingdom of God given to the son of man as a future messianic era, with the son of man representing the people of Israel collectively.
Christianity, in contrast, holds that the prophecy is fulfilled in the Jesus: the Son of Man rules over hearts, and God’s spiritual kingdom dwells in the hearts of believers. 🇬🇧
