The internet basically lost its mind today. Half-Life 3 hype is at apotheosis mode. Every tiny clue is getting treated like prophecy: new Valve hardware, HL2’s 21st anniversary, HL1’s 27th tomorrow, a hidden “upcoming release” on Steam, even a “crowbar3” filename people are zooming in on like detectives.
Everyone’s acting like the announcement is hours away.
But the two main dataminers behind all the HLX leaks are telling people to chill. Tyler McVicker says the project is real but no announcement date is known. Gabe Follower is also hinting “don’t expect fireworks tomorrow.” Even Jason Schreier says his old “2025” call was just a personal guess.
So yeah, the hype is insane. The evidence? Not so much.
If Valve drops HL3 this week it’ll be the biggest gaming moment in a decade. If not… well, Half-Life fans are used to pain.
Black Ops 7 just dropped and fans already spotted AI art everywhere. Posters in missions, textures, Calling Cards, even Prestige icons. All machine-generated.
This is a billion-dollar franchise charging 70 dollars for assets that look like quick prompts. Some Calling Cards have warped faces and messy “Ghibli-style” filters. Prestige rewards look over-designed and inconsistent.
Players are asking the obvious: why pay premium for AI slop?
If the biggest FPS series won’t hire artists, everyone loses.
They admitted posting over 40 fake “I found this game…” threads and GIFs across major subreddits to make it look like real players were discovering it. The result? 750,000 impressions, 1,500 installs… and a glimpse at how deep the manipulation goes.
This isn’t new..., just more blatant. When even small studios are running coordinated astroturfing campaigns, imagine what the big ones are doing.
🧠 The internet’s no longer about opinions. It’s about operations.
That’s what Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios (Baldur’s Gate 3), said when asked why Valve dominates PC gaming.
He hinted that success comes from serving players, not shareholders, and that most competitors fail because they chase KPIs instead of building a good service.
While some devs call Steam a monopoly, users call it something simpler: reliable.
