Hi Mesfin
I literally just woke up and checked my tofel score and I can't believe what I’m seeing 😭😭😭
I GOT 113!!!
I had to refresh the page twice just to make sure it wasn’t a dream 😭
Thank you SO much for everything you’ve done to help me get here. Your feedback, support and all those practice sessions truly paid off. I’m still in shock right now. I never thought I'd see this number next to my name
Can’t wait to share the breakdown with you soon. Just had to let you know first 'cause this wouldn’t have happened without you! 🙏💯
Hi Metages Sir,
I just received my Toefl results and I’m truly happy with the result 104/120
Even though I was hoping for a slightly higher score, I’m very satisfied and deeply grateful for the journey. One key lesson I learned: scoring 28–29 in reading practice doesn’t guarantee the same in the actual test. Staying focused during the reading section was a real challenge for me. So my advice is never be overconfident. Keep practicing, understand each question type, and work on your comprehension consistently.
Listening ended up being my lowest score 22/30, , but I’m proud of my performance in speaking and writing. And for that, I owe a big thank you to you, Metages Sir. Your feedback, support and strategies gave me the confidence and clarity I needed. Please allow me to say this.
To anyone preparing for this test, I highly recommend @Meti_2323. A true toefl mentor who genuinely cares about his students’ success.
Thank you again for everything, @Meti_2323 🙏
Today, I want to answer a question I see almost every day. Students who took the test, or took a practice test, on a website like TestGlider or BestMyTest. These students often want to know if they will get the same score on the real test. Here's my answer.
While it's possible, it's probably not likely. These websites do not reflect the actual difficulty of the TOEFL IBT. These are third-party websites. Not only that, but they don't reflect the experience of taking the real test. You're going to feel a lot different when you walk in, give your ID, you're sitting in a room with a bunch of other people, and it's the real experience. And you have to really perform, and you're under that pressure and that stress. It's going to be psychologically different. Now, I AM NOT SAYING that these websites are useless. I am not advising you not to use them, in fact. I think it's great. Any way you can prepare. I always say, all practice is good practice. But I don't want you to think, I got 26 on the speaking on BestMyTest, I'm going to get 26 on the real test. No, that's not the case. You might, but don't count on it. Don't depend on it. In my opinion, the only real way to know your TOEFL score is to take the TOEFL. That's the only way. However, these websites are still a good way to PRACTICE. But I advise you to use real ETS materials. That's why you should go to the TPO, and that is why you should buy ETS guidebooks and practice books, rather than relying solely on these third-party websites that are just an imitation of the TOEFL but are not the real thing.

My apologies. I sometimes say 'student' out of habit, even when speaking to professionals like dentists or pharmacists. In my country Ethiopia, unless you call someone 'Dr.' or give them a title, they tend to place themselves on a high pedestal though, in reality, it doesn’t always match their behavior or qualifications. That’s why I truly enjoy working with well-educated and humble individuals. It always leads to better outcomes.
💡 Tips for the Reading and Listening Section 👨🏽🏫
A student recently inquired about some tips for the Reading and Listening section of the TOEFL test. Here is the answer I provided:
📖 READING 📖
1️⃣ Make sure you are properly reading the content:
Focus on reading one sentence at a time and gather as much information as you can from its content. It is not about how fast you can read but how well can you comprehend the content you are being shown. In the end, if you have to read the same paragraph multiple times, you'll waste a lot of time.
2️⃣ Learn Vocabulary in Context:
One of the best ways to improve your vocabulary skills is by learning words in context. When reading the passages, pay attention to how words are used in context and try to INFER their meanings.
3️⃣ Focus on the Main Ideas:
The Reading section often contains long and complex passages, but it's important to focus on the main ideas and not get bogged down in details. Make sure you understand the main point of each passage, as this will help you answer the questions more efficiently.
4️⃣ Manage Your Time:
The Reading section of the TOEFL is timed, essentially you have 18 minutes per passage; so it's important to manage your time effectively. Divide the time allotted for the Reading section equally among the passages and questions, and try to pace yourself accordingly.
👂🏻 LISTENING 👂🏻
1️⃣ Develop Good Note-Taking Skills:
The Listening section of the TOEFL requires good note-taking skills. When you listen to the talks and lectures, practice taking notes and making sure your notes are ORGANIZED and SIMPLE TO READ. Instead of writing a lot of words, focus on writing down "words" that will help you connect the dots when you read them together.
2️⃣ Concentrate on the major concepts and the story as a whole:
Similar to the Reading section, it's important to focus on the main ideas in the Listening section. Listen for the main points, supporting details, and examples given in the conversations and lectures. Above all, pay attention throughout the entire conversation/lecture and avoid allowing the topic to overwhelm you. If you come across a piece of content that you don't understand, stay cool and keep listening; if you do, you'll catch up with the content.
3️⃣ Pay Attention to changes in the conversation/lecture:
Signal words, such as "however," "therefore," and "in contrast," are frequently employed to show transitions and linkages between ideas. Paying attention to these signal phrases can assist you in comprehending the structure of the conversations and lectures.
4️⃣ Infer the meaning of words using context clues:
Just like in the Reading section, it's important to use context clues to help you understand unfamiliar words or phrases. Listen for cues in conversations and lectures that can help you deduce the meanings of unfamiliar terms.
