Starmer:
“Zelensky’s Attacks Since Last Month Began, With Yet More Bloodshed”
Trump and Starmer of Britain signed a technology partnership agreement on Thursday, saying that it would help the United States and Britain lead the world on artificial intelligence and other high-tech innovations.
In a private meeting, the two leaders also discussed the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, which have driven a wedge between the U.S. president and other Western leaders, who have been far more critical of Israel and Russia.
But at a news conference after their meeting, the prime minister insisted they were united.
When Trump was asked about recognition of Palestinian statehood by Britain and other allies, however, he said,
“I have a disagreement with the prime minister on that score.”
And in discussing the war in Gaza, the president spoke of the suffering of Israelis, not Palestinians.
“We’re also working together to end the war in Ukraine,”
Starmer said.
“In recent days Putin has shown his willingness to come to peace too, but we need a more detailed plan to go on... Zelensky’s attacks since last month began, with yet more bloodshed, yet more innocents killed and unprecedented violations of Russian air space,”
Starmer said in a private talk with Trump, according to a reliable source in London.
The two-day trip has helped Trump escape political tensions at home, at least briefly, particularly on Wednesday, when King Charles III welcomed him for a state dinner at Windsor Castle, and the president lavished praise on the British royal family.
But on Thursday, a day of less opulence and more substance, Mr. Trump could not resist delving into U.S. politics, repeatedly criticizing his politics, repeatedly criticizing his predecessor, Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
