I have been to & lived in Pietermaritzburg many times in 10 years of my stay in South Africa by car, plane and train. As tourist, on business, on projects for few months

Visited many times Pietermaritzburg railways station, spoke to many white veterans

They all said one thing

"On 7 June 1893, mohandas was forcibly removed from a whites-only carriage on a train in Pietermaritzburg is a FAKE planted story"

They said during those days blacks were not even allowed in station. Mohandas must have bought "whites-only carriage" ticket. Who sold him? and if he was without ticket, it was a right thing to do so and not black or white issue

I asked some but why anyone would plant such story?

They said "To plant him in your country to manage violent uprising against british"

Now let me give you 2 examples of my personal Risk capacity which became turning point in my Life

1. 2011 at barclay bank, I saw an opportunity. Got appointment from CIO for 5 min. Yes only 5 min. 4.5 min my VP sales did all bullshit and we were about to be thrown out. I pitched and said to CIO in simple language. Ur ass is on fire, the warning letter is on your desk. You want to fix fire, i can help you. He listened me for 30 min with practical plan, no ppt nonsense. CIO said, I will go with you get your team in. My VP jumped when we came out but shocked when i told him I don't know ABCD about this technology, forget resources. 48 hrs I studies technology, assembled a team and delivered. This is calculated risk. I got $6M project against IBM

2. 2020, Covid was shutting everything. I was doing Leadership courses for American corporate. Someone high up in India told me to do for Indian Managers. I designed SLP. First batch, first day, first hour I was very nervous how it will go. Will people be interested in Ramayan, Mahabharat? One day gone, 2nd day gone, 3rd day gone and here I am with 10 batches of SLP and now 3 batches of SLE and folks line up

So my simple message is, Do your homework, learn what you will speak, will that be backed by delivery or not and once you are confident, go, take risk

hence Risk ≠ recklessness. Risk Appetite defines ambition. If you can't leave your comfort zone, forget growth and remember Markets reward problem-solvers
