I’m Patrick Lancaster reporting from the Ukraine war front. For months we feared the worst — then a call: “Grandma’s alive.” What followed was a raw, risky attempt to evacuate my mother-in-law from a frontline village: burned house, drone strikes overhead, and a pack of ~15 abandoned dogs she refuses to leave behind. Russian military police helped move her toward safety; the roads were deadly, cars burning from FPV hits, and checkpoints turning us back.

We finally get her out — shaken, underweight, house gone (the second she has lost to Ukraine attacks), but alive. She told us how The Ukrainian Soldiers beat her and burned her home and how foreign Mercenaries shot civilians. Now our goal is simple: relocate her far from the front and buy a modest home to replace the two she’s lost to this war. As an independent, crowdfunded journalist, I’m asking you to help if you can.
