What is crypto? #samuraithoughts
So, I would like to make series of posts with basic info about crypto for newbies. Hope, it will be interesting for you 👀
Let’s be honest. I’ve read hundreds of beginner articles on crypto while preparing this material, and I really tried to find the simplest explanation of what crypto is.
The best description was the first answer on Google:
Cryptocurrency is digital money that exists only on the internet and has no physical form. It uses a special technology called blockchain to ensure security and verify transactions.
Nothing extra. This is enough for a basic understanding. But you might have a very reasonable question: “Why do we even need cryptocurrency when we already have banks and other familiar and, most importantly, convenient things?”
I get it. It’s confusing. But we’ll explain it now.
To put it simply, crypto is literally an attempt to replicate traditional finance in a decentralized world.
Let me give you some simple analogies:
1️⃣ Payment systems (Visa/Mastercard) = Blockchains (Bitcoin/Ethereum/Solana)
2️⃣ Banks for storing money (Monobank) = Exchanges (Binance/BingX)
3️⃣ Banks for loans = Lending protocols
And almost all traditional financial tools have been replicated (or are being replicated) in the crypto world. But, putting aside all the other minor differences, there’s one thing in crypto that fundamentally sets it apart from regular finance.
