“Yesterday I made a digestive bitters. In a small jar, i put:
- fresh orange peel
- rosemary
- black peppercorns
- lemon grass
- dehydrated lime
- ginger
- turmeric
- cardamom
- coriander
- sage
- cayenne
- cinnamon
- licorice root
- clove
- star anise
- green anise
and then filled it with a strong local alcohol made from maguey agave from our land.
I’ll let it sit 6-8 weeks and then decant into dropper bottles. This can be used as a digestive, drank diluted in a small amount of water after a meal to help increase the digestive fire.” —By Rachael Alaia, Mexico

“Our soil teams with a multitude of organisms which provide the necessary work for healthy plants to grow free from disease, pests, and infertility. These interconnected interactions and feeding relationships (quite literally “who eats who”) help determine the types of nutrients present in soil, its depth, and pH, and even the types of plants which can grow.”
The Soil Food Web Performs the Following Functions:
1. Cycles nutrients in rocks, sand, silt, clay, organic matter (“total” nutrient pool) into plant-available forms, i.e., soluble nutrients that plants can take up.
2. Retains nutrients in soil so leaching losses and erosion do not occur.
3. Protects all surfaces of plants from disease, pests, and parasite attack. If a plant is dying, it is because the proper biology was not present to prevent an attack.
4. Decomposes toxic chemicals that would otherwise kill plants; converts wastes into plant-beneficial materials.
5. And, possibly the most important, builds soil structure. It converts dead plant residues into well-structured, well-aggregated organic matter allowing the free movement of atmospheric gases, water, and roots through the soil.”

Just rotated our Jersey cows into a paddock that had some pockets of turnips coming up that I recently planted. Much of the grass has gone dormant now for the winter and is essentially hay at this point, so the girls immediately went to the green turnip tops like crazy. They LOVED having some fresh greenery to munch on.
“Earth teach me stillness as the grasses are stilled with light.
Earth teach me suffering as old stones suffer with memory.
Earth teach me humility as blossoms are humble with beginning.
Earth teach me caring as the mother who secures her young.
Earth teach me courage as the tree which stands all alone.
Earth teach me limitation as the ant which crawls on the ground.
Earth teach me freedom as the eagle which soars in the sky.
Earth teach me resignation as the leaves which die in the fall.
Earth teach me regeneration as the seed which rises in the spring.
Earth teach me to forget myself as melted snow forgets its life.
Earth teach me to remember kindness as dry fields weep with rain.” —Ute Prayer

This morning before my "day" job, we knocked out processing another 30 chickens. I was up at 5:30 to get the scalder heated up, and then started at about 6:30 and were done by 7:30. Even the kids now know exactly what their jobs are and just crush it. Of course it was about 37 degrees when we started this morning... so the kids huddled up around the propane heated scalder to stay warm. Then the kids shower and head to homeschool co-op today. They learn real world skills, get paid for their work, and do school all at an early age.
Most people have no idea what their regenerative farmers do to bring them the best tasting and most nutritious locally raised foods. Its not filthy factory produced chickens that get 7 bleach baths because of how filthy it is... its clean food the way God intended it.
